TBILISI (FNI) - The decision of the Syrian regime to recognize the "independence" of the regions of Georgia-Abkhazia and South Ossetia and the establishment of diplomatic relations with them is a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter and decisions of the UN Security Council, said the spokesman of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hami Aksoy.
“Our country, as emphasized on various occasions, supports the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Georgia,” – Hami Aksoy noted.
The information is distributed by the Turkish embassy in Georgia.
On May 29, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement recognizing the "independence" of the occupied Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
T.n. The administration of the Presidents occupied by Abkhazia and South Ossetia also reported that the Syrian authorities announced the mutual recognition and establishment of diplomatic relations.
Soon after the Syrian regime's announcement, Georgia began a procedure for breaking diplomatic relations with Syria.
