KYIV (FNI) - United States, France and the United Kingdom on Saturday night have launched a massive strike on military installations in Syria. Allies launched about hundred air-to-ground missiles on military facilities, including centers for the development of chemical weapons. The strikes were carried out from warships in the Mediterranean and the Red Sea, also using aviation.
The joint strike was the reaction for using chemical weapons by the forces of the Assad regime in the city of Douma, which was controlled by the armed Syrian opposition. Syria strikes is not something extraordinary. The same was after chemical attack a year ago. And every relapse of the crime entails increased punishment.
The Syrian Regime has a history of using chemical weapons against its own people. In April 2017, the Assad regime used the nerve-paralysis gas of sarin in Khan-Sheikhun in the northwestern province of Idlib. During the attack on Khan-Sheikhun, the town was controlled by members of the Tahrir al-Sham, armed opposition group, better known as the Front al-Nusra. AS a result of attack 74 people were reportedly killed, including 11 children. Another 557 people received chemical burns of the eyes and respiratory tract. And after a chemical attack, the US Navy ships USS Porter and USS Ross launched from the Mediterranean 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles towards Syrian airbase of Shayrat located in Homs. According to the United States intelligence, aviation used sarin against civilians were based in airbase. Officially Shayrat Airbase is a home for Syrian Air Force 50th Air Brigade.
On Saturday, the Arab segment of Twitter spread a hashtag about the beginning of the Third World War, hinting that Russia, Assad's biggest ally, will enter into direct confrontation with the United States, Great Britain and France. It will not. Just like a year ago, Russia will not directly respond to NATO countries but to continue supporting Syrian regime in the future.
UK’s Theresa May stated on Satturday that London have sought to use every possible diplomatic channel to achieve prevention the use of chemical weapons. Earlier this week Russia vetoed a Resolution at the UN Security Council which would have established an independent investigation into the Douma attack.
“So there is no practicable alternative to the use of force to degrade and deter the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian Regime.” May told in London, adding joint strike neither about intervening in a civil war, norabout regime change. “It is about a limited and targeted strike that does not further escalate tensions in the region and that does everything possible to prevent civilian casualties.”
Vladimir Putin of Russia has already made a statement in which he "strongly condemned" the joint strike. He added that "the United States, through its actions in Syria, is provoking a new wave of refugees from this country and the region as a whole." And nothing more. Later Russia can “respond” bombing civilian infrastructure under the cover of the fight against terrorism.
Russia called an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council and said a massive joint strike is an "aggression against sovereign Syria." But Putin forgot to clarify that Russia, Turkey and Iran secretly divided the country beyond the zones of influence, and Syria we knew before does not longer exist.
