ANKARA (FNI) - Turkish Armed Forces have reportedly 'neutralized' 3347 people since the beginning of the operation Olive Branch in the north-west of Syria in the area of Afrin. 

Syrian Kurdish forces and the Damascus government have reached an agreement for the Syrian army to enter the Afrin region to help repel a Turkish offensive. Syrian government troops entered the area of Afrin but were forced to leave after the shelling by the Turkish army.

Turkish military and Turkish-backed FSA are conducting an operation against Kurdish detachments and ISIS militants in the north-west of Syria. Official authorities of Turkey declare that the purpose of the operation is to ensure security and stability at the borders, as well as to save the civilian population.

"The number of terrorists that have been neutralized since the beginning of the operation is 3347." Turkish Armed Forses told in statement.

Turkey launched the Olive Branch military operation against ISIS and the Kurdish forces in northeast Syria on January 20th, 2018. Turkish Army Units crossed the border with Syria in the area of Afrin launching an attack on the Kurdish Self-Defense Forces.

On Sunday, Feb.4, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that Turkey has no aim to invade Syria during its ongoing Operation Olive Branch in the northwestern Afrin district of Syria.

“We don’t have our eye on anybody’s land,” he said.

Turkey launched the Olive Branch military operation against ISIS and the Kurdish forces in northeast Syria on January 20th, 2018.

On Sunday, Jan. 28, Erdoğan stated that the "terrorists" in the Syrian cities of Afrin and Manbij can not escape liquidation. Erdoğan keeps saying on that the Olive Branch operation launched by the Turkish forces against the Kurdish People’s defence units in Afrin area northern Aleppo will continue until ‘the last terrorist is neutralized in this area’.

Turkish army fighting against the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) near Afrin. YPG is a part of the larger umbrella in Eastern Syria of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) which is a key partner of the US in fighting ISIS over the last several years. From the Turkish government point of view, YPG is actually connected to the PKK, the Kurdish Workers Party, which Turkish authorities announced as the terrorist organization and Turkey has been fighting it for decades.
