TBILISI (FNI) - The unique book Athos - the Patriarch's Spring, about the first visit of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia to Holy Mountain, was publically presented in Tbilisi.
AfonitInfo informs that the presentation was held in the meeting hall of the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University(TSU). It was attended by Mikhail Chkhenkeli, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, George Sharvashidze, rector of the TSU, George Zviadadze, rector of the Tbilisi Theological Academy Prot., representatives of the Georgian Patriarchate and invited guests.
The book was presented by its author - Zviad Chumburidze, Secretary General of the EU-Georgia Business Council, executive director of public relations of the TSU. From 2003 to 2007 he was also the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Greece, accompanying Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia during a historic visit to the Holy Mount Athos in 2004.
According to the participants of the event, Ilia II of Georgia was the first Georgian patriarch in history to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Mount Athos and prayed in the ancient Georgian monastery of Iveron at the miraculous Iverskaya Icon of The Mother of God.
"The book describes the first ever visit of the Georgian patriarch to Athos. Almost all this book's materials are unique, most of them are first presented to the general public. That is why the interest in this book is so high, " the rector of the TSU George Sharvashidze said during the presentation.
