Paris: The art of
pizza in the preparation of Neapolitan pizza was added to UNESCO's intangible
cultural heritage list.
Members of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage have contributed the art of preparing Neapolitan pizza to the list of intangible cultural heritage.
The art of Neapolitan pizza is a culinary practice consisting of four different phases related to the preparation of a dough and its baking in a wood-fired oven.
Practice originates in Naples, where now live and work about 3 thousand pizza, which pass this art from generation to generation.
"The introduction of the art of Neapolitan pizza into the UNESCO list was a recognition for Naples and the whole of Italy before the beginning of 2018, which the Italian authorities declared the year of Italian food," Italian Culture Minister Dario Franceschini said.
Earlier, two million Italians signed a petition calling for the provision of Neapolitan pizza as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Neapolitan pizza has already been officially recognized by the European Union as a "guaranteed traditional feature" in 2010.
