Kyiv: After the introduction of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbas, Ukraine needs to be ready to grant the Donbas a special status and declare a limited amnesty to the militants. This was stated by US special representative in Ukraine Kurt Volker during the National expert forum "Ukraine: in striving for balance", reports Front News International.
"There are requirements to Ukraine. This is a special status, holding local elections, a limited amnesty for people who committed crimes during the conflict. When Ukraine has conditions for this, Ukraine will be responsible for implementing these steps. Ukraine should be prepared to do this when peacekeeping forces are provided with security," Volker said.
On Tuesday, November 7, Special Representative of the US State Department for Ukraine Kurt Volker discussed with the permanent representatives of the United States and Ukraine in the UN Nikki Haley and Vladimir Yelchenko the deployment of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Donbass.
On Saturday, November 4, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson discussed with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko the deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission in eastern Ukraine.
