Barcelona: The head of the Government of Catalonia Carles Puigdemont said that the independence of Catalonia will be announced in a few days.

"We are going to declare independence 48 hours after the official count of all votes. Probably, this process will end when we get our votes from abroad, that is, by the end of this week or at the beginning of the next one, "Puigdemont said in an interview with the BBC.

He added that now the Spanish authorities have no contact with the Catalan government.

Recall, on October 1, the authorities of Catalonia held a referendum on independence from Madrid, contrary to the decision of the Constitutional Court of the country on its illegality.

According to the results of the voting, the overwhelming majority, namely 90.09% (2.262 million people) of the population voted "yes", 7.87% voted "no" (176 thousand people), 0.89% (20 thousand) spoiled the ballots, and 2,03% of the inhabitants of Catalonia left blank blank, but put it in the ballot box.

After the vote, the President of the Government of Catalonia Carles Puigemont announced the sovereignty of the territory.

The Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Rajoy, said that no referendum had taken place.

After the referendum, the leader of the Òmnium Cultural organization Jordi Kuishar announced during the Barcelona rally that a "national strike" was taking place on 3 October throughout the Spanish region of Catalonia.

During the referendum, the police closed 319 polling stations, applied rubber bullets and special means against people, and also pulled people from polling stations by force. On the part of the police, 33 law enforcers were injured. A total of 844 people were injured.
