Kyiv: On Saturday, August 26, on the central street of Kyiv, vegans and animal rights activists held an outrageous action dedicated to the World Animal Rights Day. Similar actions were also held in several other European capitals.

"We want to show that animals are not food, and meat farms are violence," - the organizers of the Kiev action said.

During the action, animal rights advocates publicly demonstrated "human meat" - wrapped in a film of body that resembles the packaging of meat products in supermarkets. Two activists lay in large trays with "labels", covered with a wrapper and smeared with fake blood. Other activists holding posters distributed leaflets to passers-by.

"We oppose all forms of violence against animals, including industrial livestock, fur production, circus performances and other forms of exploitation and violence," - one of the protesters said in a comment to Front News International.

According to activists who represent the international organization Direct Action Everywhere, Ukrainians are ready to fight for animal rights and build a more humane society. In their view, reducing consumption of meat and other products of industrial livestock production can solve many social and environmental problems, as well as stop the increase in the incidence of cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

On this day, actions of animal rights advocates are held in 37 cities around the world, among them Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro, Los Angeles, Boston and Chicago.
