Disagreements regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine will not hinder US relations with India. New Delhi has already helped to maintain the price ceiling on Russian oil.

 This was stated by the US ambassador in New Delhi, Eric Garcetti, Reuters reports.

 Garcetti's comments came ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's June 21-24 state visit to the United States.

 Garcetti also said India helped preserve a price ceiling on Russian oil imposed by the G7, the European Union and Australia late last year to try to deprive Moscow of funds for its war in Ukraine.

 New Delhi has refused to condemn its old ally Russia for the war and has increased its trade with Moscow to record levels, largely through imports of Russian oil.

 Relations between India and Russia

 In response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Western countries introduced a price for Russian oil of $60 per barrel.

 India does not recognize the sanctions imposed on Russia and has quickly become the largest buyer of marine oil from Russia.

 At the same time, Russian oil continues to enter the countries of the European Union, despite the embargo, as oil products from third countries, especially India.

 Several refineries are located on the west coast of India, including the largest in the world. There, Russian oil is processed into gasoline and diesel fuel, which are then sent to the EU.

 India delivered more fuel to the EU than ever in April, surpassing Saudi Arabia, according to Kpler.

 At the same time, India and Russia could not agree on trade in rupees. This was a major setback for Indian importers of cheap oil and coal from Russia, who were expecting a permanent payment mechanism in rupees to reduce currency conversion costs.
