The New York museum recognized the artist Arkhip Kuindzhi as Ukrainian

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York changed the nationality of Mariupol-born artist Arkhip Kuindzhi from Russian to Ukrainian in its descriptions. He also added that it was the Russians who destroyed his museum in his hometown.

Art historian and journalist Oksana Semenik wrote about this on Facebook.

"Archip Kuindzhi is a Ukrainian artist born in Mariupol, FINALLY recognized as UKRAINIAN in the Metropolitan Museum in New York. They also removed the shameful reference to the fact that "artist celebrating both in russia and Ukraine". Finally, they added who exactly destroyed the museum in Mariupoli - Russians. Let me remind you that this work is on permanent display and is read by thousands, if not tens of thousands of people.

I don't know what exactly they paid attention to: Twitter posts, tags, or letters with a biography and explanations (literally how many years and where he lived and what he painted, 11 days ago on the artist's birthday I decided to write them an open letter), or as well as constant discussions about this with colleagues and articulation of the problem," wrote Oksana Semenik.

She emphasized that she will continue to pound this rock until Ukraine returns all the names appropriated by Russia.

We will remind that the Russian army destroyed the Kuindzhi Art Museum in Mariupol. The artist's original paintings were taken out of Mariupol in an unknown direction.
