Putin uses winter as a tool of war against Ukraine - Borel

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said in an interview with Dziennik.pl that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin uses winter as a weapon of war.

"Putin's brutal aggression leads to further defeats: he failed to achieve any of the declared goals of the war, his killing and looting troops are retreating, and he does not have the resources to confront the Ukrainians on the battlefield. Therefore, Russia resorts to such ruthless tactics as bombing civil infrastructure. At the same time, Putin is trying to cause as much suffering and destruction as possible to the civilian population, to force people to submit to the cold, and to use winter as a tool of war," he said.

Borrell assured that the EU will continue to provide the necessary assistance to the country to win the war - diplomatic, financial, economic, humanitarian and military. He reminded that today the European Union has provided Ukraine with military equipment worth at least 8 billion dollars, and also conducts training for the soldiers of the Armed Forces within the framework of the EU Military Assistance Mission to Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine).

The EU's top diplomat also emphasized the help provided by Poland since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia.

"What Poland is doing for Ukrainians is the best manifestation of European solidarity. The same applies to Moldova, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and other countries that have accepted a huge number of Ukrainian refugees and bear the costs of their maintenance," he said.
