King Charles III asks the British Parliament to allow his brother and sister to fulfill his duties

King Charles III has asked the British Parliament to amend the law to allow his siblings to act on his behalf in his absence.

 Reuters writes about it.

In a statement read on his behalf in the House of Lords, Charles asked for an increase in the number of advisers of state, including his sister Princess Anne and younger brother Prince Edward.

The advisers, who can act on behalf of the monarch in his absence, carrying out all his key functions, except for appointing a new prime minister, are chosen from among his wife and four adults who are in line for the throne.

Currently, this means that in addition to Charles' wife Camille and his eldest son and heir Prince William, the group includes the king's youngest son Prince Harry, younger brother Prince Andrew and Andrew's eldest daughter Princess Beatrice.

This has drawn criticism as neither Andrew nor Harry have official royal roles anymore.

Andrew was stripped of most of his titles and removed from royal duties following a scandal surrounding his friendship with the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sex crimes, and later settled a US lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault.

Harry retired from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California with his wife Meghan.

This change would require Parliament to amend the terms of the Regency Act.
