German intelligence is considering scenarios under which the Russian authorities may decide on political assassinations in Germany. This is reported by Spiegel.

 The heads of Germany's two largest intelligence services have accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of effectively attacking the entire West by attacking Ukraine.

 The head of the Federal Intelligence Service, Bruno Kahl, said that Putin's actions are a "declaration of war on the entire free democratic world."

 The head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Thomas Haldenwang, added that the Russian attack on Ukraine "changes the rules of the game" in all areas of policy related to security. It also has a direct impact on Germany's internal security.

 The federal government reportedly expelled 40 Russian spies from the country in April. But Haldenwang believes that this is far from all.

 Spiegel notes that the ban threshold for the operations of Russian special services in Germany has fallen. Thus, it is reported that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution considered scenarios under which political assassinations are possible in Germany.
