HIMARS missile systems will be delivered to Latvia

On Monday, September 26, highly mobile HIMARS artillery missile systems will be demonstrated in Riga at Spilvi Airfield and Liepaja Airport.

This is reported by the Delfi portal.

At the request of the National Armed Forces, training exercises on the delivery and deployment of HIMARS systems by MC-130J Commando II aircraft of the US Special Operations Forces in Europe will be held in Latvia.

The purpose of the exercises is to demonstrate the possibilities of cooperation between the Latvian National Armed Forces and the US Armed Forces, the Latvian army's performance of detection, identification and assessment of targets, as well as the provision of fire support by the American side.

Defense Minister Artis Pabriks, Commander of the National Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Leonid Kalnins, and US Ambassador to Latvia John Carwile observe the delivery, deployment and simulated firing of the HIMARS missile and artillery system at Spilve Airfield.

And in Liepaja, upon arrival, the HIMARS systems will go to the Shkede military training ground in the Vergalska Volost of the South Kurzeme Region to fire training missiles at a target in Latvia's economic zone of the Baltic Sea.

In September and October, the national armed forces conduct a series of military exercises, during which soldiers and military equipment of Latvia and allied countries move intensively along the main and regional roads of Latvia.

During the performance of training tasks, flights of various military aircraft, including at low altitudes, as well as combat shootings at firing ranges are periodically held in Latvian airspace.

The National Armed Forces call on the citizens of Latvia to understand the ongoing military exercises aimed at improving the country's comprehensive defense capabilities and strengthening regional security.

We will remind that in July it was reported that Latvia submitted an application to the US government for the purchase of HIMARS rocket launcher systems.
