US and Canadian warships passed through the Taiwan Strait

US and Canadian warships passed through the Taiwan Strait on Tuesday, September 20.

This was reported by Reuters, citing the statements of the press services of the fleets.

The US destroyer USS Higgins and the Canadian frigate Vancouver passed through the Taiwan Strait outside territorial waters.

It is the second such transit of a US warship after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, which heightened tensions between Washington and Beijing, and the second with Canada in the past year.

Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand said the gesture demonstrates Canada's commitment to keeping the Pacific "free, open and inclusive."

Taipei called the passage of ships of Western allies "a concrete demonstration of the determined opposition of democratic allies to China's expansionist attempts."

The Chinese army said that they were monitoring the movement of the ships and "sent them a warning."
