Israel Strikes against Iranian Objects Near Russian Bases on the Coast of the Mediterranean Sea

During the week, Israel launched several missile strikes on Iranian military facilities in Syria. In particular, the strikes were carried out on the order of the Russian military base in Tartus.

The international news agency Reuters reported this, citing sources. Earlier, the Syrian army said that up to three servicemen were killed and three wounded as a result of two simultaneous Israeli attacks on the south of Tartus and one more attack on the capital.

According to "two Syrian interlocutors familiar with the region," the strikes on the eastern and northern outskirts of Damascus were aimed at outposts of the Lebanese pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia.

A Syrian army officer in the coastal area of Tartus told Reuters on condition of anonymity that the Iranian base near the village of Abu Afsah, east of the port city, was attacked, in order with the PIP station and the radar station located nearby.

In recent years, Israel has launched hundreds of strikes against Iranian targets, but mostly unique strikes against coastal provinces, where the main Russian military forces are concentrated.

According to Israeli and regional military experts, the latest strikes are part of the escalation of a low-intensity conflict, the aim of which was to strengthen Iran's position in Syria.

The strikes were carried out near the single Mediterranean base of the Russian Navy in the port of Tartus, where Russian warships are moored, and in the neighboring province of Latakia there is a large Moscow base.

As we know, Russia's intervention together with Iran helped to turn the situation to Assad's advantage in a conflict that had lasted for over ten years.

The Russian forces in Syria regularly flatten their eyes on the Iranian air strikes for the Iranian-sponsored deployment and supply of weapons. But the tension between Israel and Russia is growing due to the condemnation of a large-scale war in Ukraine.
