Europe must put the imperial Russian Federation in its place, and then destroy the imperialism of the EU - Morawiecki

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki believes that once imperialist Russia is defeated, the rights of the entire EU should be stronger. About this he wrote in an article for Die Welt .

"The fact that the Polish voice is constantly ignored is only one of the applications of a major problem that the EU is struggling with today: the equality between individual countries is only declarative. Political practice has shown that the positions of Germany and France are more important than others" - Morawiecki said.

In his opinion, there is a formal democracy and an actual oligarchy in which the authorities are the strongest.

Moreover, the strong make mistakes and are not able to accept criticism from the side. The safety valve that protects the EU from the tyranny of the majority is the principle of one-stop shop. The search for compromise between 27 countries, whose interests are so often competing, can sometimes lead to discord, and the compromise may not satisfy everyone by 100 per cent. However, it guarantees that every vote will be respected and that the decision taken will meet the minimum expectations of each Member State", says the Polish Prime Minister.

Morawiecki stressed that Europe is much stronger for Russia.

"But if we really want to talk about democratic values today, it is time for a serious self-analysis in Europe. For a long time, the low price of Russian gas was very important for many countries. We know that it was probably so low because the blood money paid by Ukraine today was not taken into account," he said.

"The fight against imperialism in Europe is also a challenge for the European Union itself. International organizations can successfully oppose imperialism only if they themselves defend the most important basic values, namely the freedom and equality of all their member states," Morawiecki said.

That is why the Polish prime minister opposed the withdrawal of the EU principle of unilateralism.

"Russia wants to reshape Europe into something familiar and close to it for several centuries: into a group of forces with spheres of influence that are similar," he believes.

"We must overcome the threat of imperialism in the European Union. We need a broad reform that would put the common good and equality at the forefront of the EU principles. Success will not be achieved without a change of perspectives: it is the member states, not the EU institutions, that have to define the direction and priorities of the EU activities "The EU institutions exist for the states, not on their own. The basis of cooperation will always be the search for consensus, not the preference of the strongest", Morawiecki said.
