Lithuania resumed rail transit of goods to Kaliningrad

July 22, Lithuanian Railway (LTG Cargo) resumed the transit of goods included in the sanctions list of the European Union to the Kaliningrad region of Russia. This was announced by Mantas Dubauskas, a representative of the railroad, writes DW.

 

"We received a clarification," he explained. The European Commission provided them on July 20: the transit of sanctioned goods by rail is allowed, while road transport remains banned.

 

The European Commission has previously clarified that the ban on the transit of goods in the Kaliningrad region applies only to road transport. One can transport by rail the sanctioned materials - concrete, wood and alcohol, "subject to necessary controls. Transportation of military cargoes and dual-use products is prohibited by all modes of transport.
