Zelensky called Stoltenberg on the eve of NATO summit: stated the importance of missile defense for Ukraine

Today another phone conversation took place between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. According to the Ukrainian head of state, Ukraine needs to provide a strong forward missile defense (BMD).

"Held a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Coordinated positions on the eve of the Madrid "transformation summit" of NATO. Noted the importance of a strong missile defense for Ukraine to prevent Russian terrorist attacks," Zelensky said on Twitter.

For his part, Stoltenberg assured that NATO allies would continue to support Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression: "We will increase support for our close partner. Now and in the long term," he pointed out.

NATO leaders at the Madrid summit later this week will agree on a strengthened comprehensive assistance package for Ukraine, which includes secure communications, a drone defense system and fuel. The summit will also discuss the food crisis caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the war in Ukraine would last a long time, so the allies of the Alliance must continue supplying it with modern weapons. He stressed that the war in Ukraine actually started back in 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea and supported militants in eastern Ukraine.
