In the European Council made a statement on the candidacy of Ukraine

European Union leaders will officially grant EU candidate status to Ukraine. This also applies to Moldova.

 

This was stated by the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, before the meeting in Brussels.

 

"This is a decisive moment for the European Union. I am sure that today we will grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova. We also express a clear and strong European perspective for Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova," he said.

 

We note that today in Brussels begins a two-day meeting of the European Council, during which the leaders of the 27 EU states will decide whether to grant candidate status to Ukraine in the European bloc.

 

Also the main topics of the summit are the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the blocking of Ukrainian ports by the aggressor country.

 

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanyshyn said that absolutely all EU member states agreed to grant Ukraine candidate status.

 

Also, according to Bloomberg agency, the EU is unanimous in its decision to grant candidate status to Ukraine.

 

On 17 June, the European Commission recommended to grant Ukraine candidate status in the European bloc.
