Zelensky believes: no one doubts that Ukraine should receive EU candidate status

President Volodymyr Zelensky is sure that no one doubts that Ukraine should receive a positive decision on the EU candidacy. He said this during an address to the participants of the charity telethon Embrace Ukraine - #StrivingTogether held in Amsterdam.

"There are only a few days left until the historic decision of the European Union on Ukraine. And I am sure that none of us, none of you have any doubts that Ukraine should get a positive decision. We deserve it! And we deserve it not only by our courage and our fight for freedom", - said Zelensky.

The president also noted during his speech that Russia's attack on Ukraine has restored the worst pages of history to the memory of Ukrainians.

"Russian bombs are destroying cities. Russian soldiers are killing thousands of civilians. The Russian state is even carrying out mass deportations of Ukrainians. What is this? This is an attack by Russia against all of free Europe. Against our common values. Against human rights, the rule of law and the conventions that protect everyone in Europe and the world. We will not allow our values to be destroyed! I believe that together we can end the war with our victory as soon as possible. And rebuild all that Russia has destroyed. A united Europe is stronger than any tyranny!", Zelensky stressed.

He noted that even during such a brutal war, Ukrainian democratic institutions have been preserved.

"Even now we are expanding the scope of European values - yesterday the Ukrainian parliament ratified the Istanbul Convention. And no matter how much pressure Russia puts on us, we are still sure that the future of Europe is certainly bright and free, because we are all defending it together! I am grateful to everyone who supports us. Thank you for this sincerity, Amsterdam! We are waiting for a positive European decision for Ukraine!", - said Zelensky.

We shall remind you that the European Commission recommended granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate.
