Germany and Slovakia did not agree on circular deliveries of tanks to Ukraine

Slovakia failed to reach an agreement with Germany on the supply of T-72 tanks to Ukraine and replacing them with German Leopard 2A4 tanks. This was reported by Business Insider.

As noted, two months ago, the Chancellor's Office said that Germany was preparing a so-called circular exchange with Slovakia on such an agreement: the country is transferring Soviet-era T-72 battle tanks to Ukraine in exchange for more modern German tanks.

"But nothing has happened until today. The reason: Germany offered 15 Leopard 2A4 tanks for 30 T-72s - not enough for Slovakia's national defense, so it abandoned the planned agreement last week," the report said.

The Bratislava Ministry of Defense confirmed this to Business Insider Monday night.

"The reality is that we cannot acquire the form of support that the Czech Republic or other countries have promised. They deliver a unit to Ukraine and instead get two units from Germany or another country. Slovakia has 30 T-72 tanks. So 15 Leopard main battle tanks cannot be a solution for us, because we need 30 main battle tanks per tank battalion. To that end, we are in talks with our allies," the spokesman said.

Earlier, German authorities blocked Spanish plans to transfer Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine.
