The World Swimming Championships instead of Russia will be held in Australia

The next World Short Course Swimming Championships will be hosted by Australia. It was taken away from Russia because of the war in Ukraine. The press service of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) announced about the new venue on the official website of the organization.

 

The FINA Council reported that instead of the Russian city of Kazan on December 13-18, 2022, the championship will be held in Melbourne, Australia.

 

"FINA is delighted that the proud nation of swimming in Australia will host the FINA Swimming World Championships (25 meters) for the first time. Australia has a great tradition of swimming, and we look forward to returning to Melbourne. will provide the world's best short distance swimmers with an environment for the best results.We are incredibly grateful to our hosts for stepping forward to host this prestigious meet," said FINA President Husain Al-Musallam.

 

Melbourne applied to host the World Short Course Championships after FINA removed the Kazan event following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
