Putin could invade Ukraine very quickly - Blinken

Russian President Vladimir Putin has created the possibility of a very quick invasion of Ukraine if he makes such a decision, UNIAN reports.

There is evidence that Russia has prepared plans for possible state aggression against Ukraine, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said after a two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Riga.

According to him, the Russian plans include efforts to undermine our country from inside as well as "large-scale military operations". The top U.S. diplomat stressed that it is not yet known whether the Russian leader has decided to invade Ukraine.

"But we do know that he has created an opportunity to do so very quickly if he so decides," the secretary of state said.

At the same time, Anthony Blinken believes that the solution to the problem in eastern Ukraine would be to fulfill the terms of the Minsk agreements, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

"There is an available diplomatic way forward. The Russians say the Minsk agreements must be implemented. The Ukrainians say the same thing. I think that if that were to happen, it would at least solve the Donbass problem in eastern Ukraine," he said in an interview with Latvia's LTV TV channel in Riga.

The secretary of state noted that before his upcoming meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Stockholm, he held numerous consultations on the Russia-Ukraine conflict with allies as well as with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.

"All of them focused on our concerns about the situation in and around Ukraine," he stressed.

The secretary of state said: "I think I can reflect not only the view of the United States, but also the view of all NATO allies, that if Russia continues its aggression against Ukraine, there will be serious consequences."
